I’ve noticed some blogs talking about Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs recently, in an attempt to increase awareness. Then I somehow wound up on Seth Godin’s blog and noticed his post called How many bloggers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?, so I’m chipping in with my $.02.
Here’s the lowdown: CF Light Bulbs have been around for decades. They’re a tad more expensive up-front, but purchasing just one CF Light Bulb will save you $66 over its lifetime. And, “If every American home replaced just one light bulb with [any CF Light Bulb, not just an Energy Star -JK], we would save enough energy to light more than 2.5 million homes for a year and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of nearly 800,000 cars.”
Here’s a highly technical breakdown: Compact Fluorescent Lamps: What You Should Know and then some really good tips from Energy Star. Summary: USE CF LIGHT BULBS!! Besides, it’s a chance to use the word Screw in an environmentally-friendly way.
